Latest Technology news: Google is launching the free version of its Stadia game

Google is launching the free version of its Stadia game streaming service today. Anyone with a Gmail address can check in , and Google is even providing a free two-month trial of Stadia Pro as a part of the launch. It comes just two months after Google promised a free tier was imminent, and it'll mean anyone can get access to nine titles, including GRID, Destiny 2: the gathering , and Thumper, freed from charge.

Even existing Stadia Pro customers will get two months of the service for free of charge , as Google isn't charging existing subscribers for subsequent two months. Fourteen countries are going to be ready to access the free trial of Stadia Pro, and users can purchase and keep individual games on the service.

After the two-month Stadia Pro trial, the service will revert to the bottom free Stadia service, which is restricted to 1080p resolution, 60fps, and stereo sound.
Google is additionally making some changes to Stadia to accommodate the influx of latest users. “To reduce load on the web further, we’re working toward a short lived feature that changes the default screen resolution from 4k to 1080p,” explains Phil Harrison, Google’s Stadia chief. “The overwhelming majority of individuals on a desktop or laptop won’t notice a big drop by gameplay quality, but you'll choose your data usage options within the Stadia app.”

If you’re curious about trying out Stadia, you'll now check in for free of charge over at Google’s Stadia site. Google does say it’s rolling out over subsequent 48 hours starting today, therefore the free version won't be immediately available in every region just yet.
